General

This beautiful 30 villa boutique resort evokes the heritage of Zanzibar dating back to the era of the Sultans. A fusion of Arabic, Swahili and Indian design, with Swahili arches, intricate hand carved cement décor, beautiful antiques, hand made furniture and intricate brass lanterns, it will offer unparalleled standards of luxury on the Island of Zanzibar. Approximately a 50 minute drive from the airport or Stone Town and ten minutes drive from the village of Bwejuu. The Resort is situated on a 240 meter stretch of fine sand beach, with a coral reef facing the beach that runs down the eastern shore of Zanzibar.

There are 14 one bedroom villas and 15 two bedroom villas, as well as one Presidential two bedroom villa. Each of the 30 villas (one and two bedroom categories) has a private plunge pool. Inside, the villas are spacious and have free standing baths in the ensuite bathroom. Outside, enjoy the large terrace with sun loungers. For the ultimate indulgence, there is also the Two Bedroom Ocean Front Presidential Villa.

Food here has flavours of Arabia, India, Persia, Asia and Swahili. The Sultans Dining Room is an open air restaurant with a beautiful Arabian feel. Breakfast is served at the Linvingstone Terrace overlooking the manicured gardens. Your stay is all-inclusive.

Other amenities include an elegant swimming pool, a fitness centre, tennis courts and the  Spa, an oasis of calm offering a variety of specialised massages and treatments. In addition, a wide array of recreational activities is on offer. The Water Club offers instruction in wind surfing, kite surfing and sailing, whilst other activities include snorkelling, diving, canoeing, kayaking and cycling and beach games. Diving on the offshore reef with its exceptional marine life can be arranged with a nearby dive centre.

Baraza has become known for its romantic charm and is undoubtedly the most popular honeymoon and wedding hotel on the Island. You can arrange a private “Island Ceremony” of your dreams and assist in planning this special occasion.

Area Information

The history of Zanzibar has been influenced by many nations, including the Arabia, Persia, India, Portugal, Britain and local tribes from the African mainland. This is clearly noticed in the architecture. Stone Town is a place of narrow lanes, intricately carved wooden doors, towers, terraces and fabulous mosques. To truly appreciate Stone Town, it is best to explore it on foot with the guide who will lead you through the narrow and winding streets, telling you all about ancient secrets, stories and taking you to the sites where it all happened… In 1964 Zanzibar united with Tanganyika to form the present day Tanzania, although it still enjoys a high degree of autonomy within the unified state. Zanzibar is an archepelago of islands in the Indian Ocean that lie 30km off the coast of Tanzania. The two largest islands are Unguja (usually referred to as 'Zanzibar') and Pemba. Zanzibar Town (including it's old quarter of Stone Town) is the capital of Zanzibar, and has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Tourism and spices are Zanzibar's main industries.  It is often still referred to as the Spice Islands due to the production of cloves, nutmeg, pepper and cinnamon ...
